The mission of the Cosford Classics program is to preserve the cinematic experience. The series focuses on presenting films of great historical and cultural importance, as well as forgotten classics, in glorious 35mm. Driven by a nostalgia for the materiality of the cinematic experience, the series offers a limited and exclusive experience of seeing classic films collectively and larger than life. We invite audiences to shun their digital lives – computers, tablets, and smartphones, to sit with one another and simply enjoy a film projected on celluloid.
The experience of the Cosford Classics series is unique, ephemeral, and memorable. Films are enhanced with introductions, discussions, and special presentations. All films in the series are screened – in reel-to-reel – utilizing our two 35mm projectors. This specific process limits the contact and manipulation of the print to preserve its quality for future screenings and audiences to enjoy.
The series is supported by numerous institutions such as the Norton Herrick Center for Motion Picture Studies, the Lowe Art Museum, the Frost School of Music, the French Consulate General of Miami, and the Miami Jewish Film Festival. We would also like to thank representatives at Universal, Janus Films, Jupiter Films, Corinth Films, Cohen Media Group, Park Circus and Rialto Films for their continued dedication to the projection of 35mm Prints.
