"It's the best musical biopic in decades."
"The beauty, and the horror, of Bill Pohlad's exhilarating and inventive LOVE & MERCY...is the sense it gives us of the world passing through Brian Wilson's ears."
An unconventional tale for an unconventional talent, LOVE & MERCY chronicles the reclusive Beach Boys songwriter and musican Brian Wilson’s life. The film told in two interwoven parts, follows a young Wilson (played by Paul Dano) as he works on his experimental and acclaimed pop album while dealing with looming mental issues. The second part follows an older Wilson (played by John Cusak) following a mental breakdown. Wilson becomes divided between a new redemptive love (Elizabeth Banks) and a controlling and destructive therapist (Paul Giamatti). LOVE & MERCY exposes the joy and torment of Wilson’s musical genius as he struggles to express himself and keep his demons at bay. Director Bill Pohland, with the help of tremendous performances, captures the musical talents of Wilson in a uniquely cinematic way. LOVE & MERCY is all about the life, love and genius of Brian Wilson.
